Our program objective is to prepare, educate and provide students for certification and employment as an en- try level Phlebotomist and Monitor Technician or EKG Technician. Upon completion of the program and meeting all of the course requirements a diploma will be issued.

Program Description:
Successful completion of the program prepares the student for certification as a certified phlebotomist by a national exam. The program places emphasis on the safe practice of collecting adequate and correct blood specimens by capillary or venipuncture on adults, children and neonates. The second part of the program includes the correct and accurate obtaining of an EKG tracing and cardiac monitoring. The program consists of classroom, simulated laboratory settings and clinical externship. The clinical externship is a minimum of 100 hours in which the students must demonstrate successful specimen collection with 100 venipunctures, 25 skin punctures, and observe 5 atrail punctures. The student must also have a minimum of 10 EKG tracings. Pre-Requisites: No pre-requisites other then general admission policies

This externship is competency based and may take less hours.

    This course covers: Introduction to Phlebotomy and EKG Technician, Anatomy &Physiology, Medical Terminology, 4 hours of Florida Aids Education, CPR, Laboratory Mathematics, Laboratory Safety, Phlebotomy Equipment, Blood Collection Techniques, Quality Control, Basic Laboratory Values, Urine and Body Fluids.

    This course provides the knowledge and skills of ECG Equipment and Techniques
    and Basic ECG Interpretation Skills
  • PHL 102 Phlebotomy/EKG Technician Externship 120 clock hours
    Students complete a supervised hospital externship in hospitals. This course is designed to orientate the student with the roles of phlebotomy, monitor technician and EKG technician. The rotation allows the student to perform skills learned in the classroom on actual patients. Each student is required to meet competencies including a minimum of 50 veinipunctures.
