The following objectives have been established for the EMS program department of FMTI for the Paramedic:
1. To develop in the graduate Paramedic an understanding of Emergency Medical Systems. The roles and responsibilities of the Paramedic are emphasized.
2. To prepare the graduate Paramedic to provide quality care and to function competently and effectively in the pre-hospital system. The graduate Paramedic will be able to demonstrate advanced skills and knowledge in his or her patient encounters.
3. To prepare the graduate Paramedic to successfully complete the state and/or National Paramedic Certificate Examinations.

GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS
The Paramedic student must complete the following to be considered for graduation. These requirements must be completed prior to taking the final exam:
- 1. Complete all required class, lab and clinical hours.
- 2. Pass each module exam, mid-term and final with 80% or above
- 3. Complete ACLS, PALS, PHTLS courses.
- 4. Demonstrate competencies in required critical tasks as outlined in skills lab, clinical and field internships.
- 5. Completions of FISDAP.
- 6. Meets all financial requirements.

PARAMEDIC III HOSPITAL EXTERNSHIP (200 HOURS)
All students are required to complete 200 hours of hospital clinicals. Before the student can begin this phase, specific criteria must be completed to the satisfaction of the Instructor and Course Coordinator.
PARAMEDIC IV FIELD EXTERNSHIP (400 HOURS)
All students are required to complete 400 hours of ambulance clinicals. Before the student can begin this phase, specific criteria must be completed to the satisfaction of the Instructor and Course Coordinator.
- Admission Requirements
- Current CPR card, AHA-HCP or ARC Basic Rescue
- Current Florida EMT-B or NREMT-B Certification
- Pass the FMTI Paramedic entrance examination
